About the Business
JFS started out as the UK’s only law firm offering legal services for the deaf and hard of hearing. We now offer an extensive range of legal services to the general public but we still remain niche in key areas. We are passionate about our work in this area and are committed to enhancing our client’s lives.
As the business has grown we have expanded the scope of legal services that we provide for both individual and business clients. We are proud of the professional team of specialist lawyers and dedicated support staff that we have built up over the last six years. At JFS we tailor our services to suit the specific needs of our clients as we recognise that every business and every person has different requirements. Our business clients range from small businesses to major corporations from a diversity of industries.
As well as providing legal advice for the deaf and hard of hearing we campaign about issues relating to noise induced hearing loss and deafness. We have a team of specialists who work with deaf and hard of hearing people. Our staff are trained to the highest levels on deaf awareness and British sign language (BSL), and some of our staff are trained to BSL levels 1 and 2.

Court of Protection
There might be times in life when someone you care for may no longer be able to make decisions for themselves. This could be for a number of reasons such as a degenerative disease or mental illness. If this should happen, you will want to make sure that their interests are taken care of. In these circumstances advice from a lawyer used to dealing with Court of Protection matters is vital.
If you wish to take over management of the affairs of a loved one you will need to apply to the Court of Protection to be appointed as a Deputy. Once you have been appointed you will become responsible for decisions relating to matters such as finance, healthcare and property.
JFS can provide support and advice as you make your application. We understand that this may be an upsetting time for you and we will provide all the help we can, not only during the application process but afterwards too. Once you have become a Deputy we can continue to advise you on matters such as: paying for care, accessing state benefits, completing tax returns and submitting an annual report to the Office of the Public Guardian.
